MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 16th-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team closes out the regular season with two weekend matches.
The Mountaineers (13-3-0, 7-2-0) travel to Radford (8-5-1) for a 7 p.m., match at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 22 to wrap up their non-conference schedule. West Virginia then returns to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for a 1 p.m., match on Sunday, Oct. 24, against Georgetown for its last regular season game of the year.
In the only previous meeting between the Highlanders and the Mountaineers, West Virginia downed Radford 5-0 last season.
Georgetown is currently in a three-way tie for eighth place in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas must win the remainder of their matches in order to secure a place in this year’s conference championship.
West Virginia enters Sunday’s match having clinched home field advantage for the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The Mountaineers are currently tied with Connecticut for second place. A win over the Hoyas, combined with at least one Boston College win over the weekend, would secure West Virginia the No.2 seed in the conference tournament.
Quarterfinal action of the 2004 BIG EAST championship begins the weekend of Oct. 30-31. The date, time and opponent of the Mountaineers’ quarterfinal match will be determined early next week.
