Morgantown, W.Va. - West Virginia University men's soccer player Jarrod Evans has been named the BIG EAST rookie of the week for his effort against Providence on Saturday, Oct 16.
The Potomac, Md., native scored the Mountaineers' first goal of the match against the Friars to tie the score at 1-1 just before the half. Just over a minute and a half into the second half Evans came calling again, this time assisting Reed Cooper on a cross to put WVU ahead.
The goal was Evans' first of his collegiate career while the assist was his second.
Evans becomes the third Mountaineer soccer player to be tabbed by the BIG EAST in 2004. On Sept. 27, forward Jarrod Smith was named co-offensive player of the week and Nick Noble was named co-goalkeeper of the week.
WVU (8-6-0) returns to action when it hosts Villanova at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
