MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 24 West Virginia University women’s cross country team hits the trails on Saturday, Oct. 16, when it travels to State College, Pa., to compete in the Penn State National Open.
The Mountaineers have been idle since Sept. 25 when they placed seventh at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. West Virginia’s seventh place finish was better than No. 24 Texas Tech (8th), No. 21 Penn State (9th), No. 26 Colorado State (10th) and No. 8 Princeton (11th).
West Virginia was led by senior All-American Megan Metcalfe who placed fifth overall with a time of 20:55 and fellow senior Tara Struyk who finished with a 12th-place finishing time of 21:31. Senior Jennifer Davis was WVU’s third finisher with a 37th-place finish and a time of 22:14. Senior Jennifer Kemp and junior Susan Davis crossed the line simultaneously at 22:55 to place 79th and 80th respectively.
West Virginia is one of four ranked teams competing in Saturday’s meet. The 24th-ranked Mountaineers are joined by No. 2 Providence, No. 5 Duke and No. 29 Boston College.
Saturday’s 6K race is being held at the Penn State University Blue-White Golf Course and is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
