Women's Soccer: WVU Travels to Rutgers, Seton Hall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 18th-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to New Jersey for a pivotal weekend of BIG EAST competition.
The Mountaineers (11-3-0, 5-2-0) play at Rutgers (8-7-0, 3-3-0) on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., and at Seton Hall (6-6-2, 1-5-0 ) on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m.
West Virginia enters the weekend having won three straight. The Mountaineers are led on the year by senior Laura Kane’s 21 points (7G, 7A). Freshman Ashley Banks, who earned conference rookie of the week honors on Monday, and juniors Marisa Kanela and Rachael Minnich are WVU’s second leading scorers. Each has 18 points.
The Mountaineers lead the series with the Scarlet Knights by a 5-2-1 margin. Last season, WVU downed RU 2-0 in a match that marked the 100th win in the history of West Virginia women’s soccer. West Virginia is 4-3-1 all-time versus the Pirates, having last defeated them 2-1 in 2003.
West Virginia is currently in third place in the BIG EAST, behind No.1 Notre Dame and Connecticut with three conference matches remaining.
Following this weekend’s matches, the Mountaineers will play their last non-conference match of the regular season versus Radford on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. West Virginia will then return home for Senior Day at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 24, when it takes on Georgetown in its regular season finale at 1 p.m.
