MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will play its fall series in the first week of October.
West Virginia will host a professional scout day on October 4, at 4 p.m., at Hawley Field. The scout day will be similar to a professional baseball tryout. Players will be evaluated based on their performance in a series of tasks starting with batting practice. The Mountaineers will then run a series of 60-yard dashes, go through a defensive workout, followed by a round of pre-game infield/outfield practice. The evening will conclude with a nine inning intra-squad game.
Three Mountaineers were taken in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft this past June. Grant Psomas and Zac Cline were both selected in the 15th round. Stan Posluszny, who opted to return to school, was taken in the 21st round while Jake Serfass signed a free agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Scouts representing all 30 professional teams have been invited to the WVU Scout Day. West Virginia had 15 players sign professional contracts in the last four years.
On October 9, West Virginia welcomes back former Mountaineers to take part in the 14th annual Alumni Baseball Game at 4 p.m. The Mountaineers will then host the annual Blue-Gold World Series, October 12-15, at Hawley Field.
WVU will continue fall workouts leading up to its annual Fall Showcase Camp on October 16. The fall season concludes with the 9th annual WVU Baseball Marathon Game on October 17.
All of the fall schedule events are open to the public and admission is free.
