MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University junior center Yelena Leuchanka underwent successful season-ending surgery, Friday, January 9, on her right knee's torn anterior cruciate ligament. She is applying for a medical redshirt, and, if granted, will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Leuchanka, a 6-5 native of Gomel, Belarus, appeared in just on game for the Mountaineers this season. In that game against East Carolina, a WVU win, Leuchanka played just nine minutes but scored four points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Leuchanka was the nation's No. 1 junior college from a season ago at Wabash Valley junior college.
