Jones, a 2002 NCAA champion, returned to the Mountaineer lineup in December taking the prestigious Midlands title at 184-pounds. The junior grappler is ranked No. 1 in all three major collegiate wrestling polls (InterMat, Amateur Wrestling News and The Wrestling Mall).
Besides Jones’ ranking, WVU has four other wrestlers ranked in the Top 15 by InterMat.
Joe Clarke (141) sits at No. 13 in the country and Matt Lebe (157) has been tabbed tenth. Clarke, a senior, has notched 17 wins on the year while sophomore teammate Lebe leads West Virginia in victories with 19.
Juniors Matt Daddino (197) and Brent Miller (HWT) also find themselves among the nation’s best, ranked 14th and fifth in their respective weight classes.
The team fell two spots to No. 14 and next travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to compete in the 2004 Cliff Keen NWCA National Duals on January 17-18.
