SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Ashley Bush scored 15 points and Seton Hall out-shot West Virginia 20-6 from the free throw line to defeat the Mountaineers 57-50 Saturday afternoon in South Orange, N.J.
The Pirates overcame a two-point halftime deficit, primarily from the foul line, to improve to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in Big East play.
Charlene Thomas contributed 10 for the Pirates, which have held opponents to 50 points or less in four of their last five games. Seton Hall has won eight straight games.
Yolanda Paige scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for West Virginia. Kate Bulger also scored 10.
Seton Hall won the game despite shooting just 32.1 percent from the floor; the Pirates made 18 of 56 field goal attempts. West Virginia wasn’t much better making 20 of 54 field goal attempts for 37 percent.
Seton Hall held a 40-36 rebounding advantage.
West Virginia drops to 9-5, 1-2. The Mountaineers have now lost 12 straight conference road games dating back to the 2001 season and have lost six straight to Seton Hall.
The Mountaineers remain on the road to take on St. John’s Tuesday night in Jamaica, N.Y.
