MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's soccer senior Chrissie Abbott has been named BIG EAST co-offensive player of the week for her efforts in the Mountaineers' three wins last week.
The North Olmstead, Ohio, native totaled seven points on the week, scoring three goals and tallying one assist. Abbott, a Hermann Trophy nominee, notched the game-winning goal in West Virginia's 2-1 win over Michigan State on Sept. 1. The All-American forward then earned JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational all-tournament honors for her two goal, one assist efforts in WVU's 4-0 shutouts of both New Hampshire and James Madison.
Abbott, a forward, is only three goals shy of West Virginia's all-time goals scored record currently held by former All-American and current WUSA member, Katie Barnes. After this past week's performance, Abbott boasts 43 career goals.
The honor is Abbott's and West Virginia's first of the season.
