The West Virginia University women's cross country team will open the 2003 season when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the Duquesne Duals on Saturday, September 5, at the Schenley Park Oval.
WVU will be part of a ten team field that includes Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, La Roche, Pitt, Penn State-Altoona, Robert Morris, St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (Pa.) and Wheeling College.
The Mountaineers return all seven runners from a year ago, led by junior All-American Megan Metcalfe. WVU will also count on contributions from veteran's Rachel Carden, Jennifer Davis, Susan Davis, Jennifer Kemp, Devon Plesuk and Tara Struyk in order to have a successful season.
"Our expectations are simple, qualify for the NCAA Championships," said distance coach Sean Cleary. "The women all improved drastically in track season and had a solid summer of training so we are poised for another run at Nationals."
The 5 K race is set to begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.
