MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Midfielder Lisa Stoia scored two goals and tallied an assist as the No.7 West Virginia University women's team (8-1-0) rolled past Binghamton (3-1-0) 5-0 on Wednesday night at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex.
Once again, the Mountaineers got the match scoring underway quickly as junior defender Lisa Zanti chipped a shot from 20 yards out past Bearcat goalkeeper Kristie Bowers barely three minutes into the contest.
Stoia, a Shirley, N.Y. native, scored her first goal of the match when she one-timed a cross from Hermann Trophy nominee Chrissie Abbott into the back of the net a brief five minutes later.
At the 44:18 mark, Stoia found forward Rachel Minnich off a set play for Minnich's first career goal and the Mountaineers took a 3-0 lead into the half.
West Virginia continued to dominate play throughout the second half, with Stoia scoring once more and Abbott adding the match's last goal in the 79th minute.
The Mountaineers outshot the Bearcats 30-6 in a match that was never close.
"Right from the start we put the pressure on them," said head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. "Everyone played with 90 minutes of intensity. This was a relentless effort for the Mountaineers tonight."
Mountaineer goalkeepers Lana Bannerman and Laura Finley combined for West Virginia's third-straight shutout and its fifth of the season.
With the win, WVU extends its regular-season home win streak to 14 matches and builds its season-long unbeaten streak to eight.
WVU returns to action on Sunday, Sept.28, when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for a 2 p.m., match with No. 19 Tennessee.
