MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -West Virginia University women's soccer player Ashley Weimer has been named to the SoccerBuzz elite team of the week for efforts in leading WVU to two shutouts this past weekend.
A North Huntingdon, Pa., native, Weimer anchored the Mountaineer defense in its 1-0 shutout at UConn, a win that handed the Huskies their first loss of the season on Friday, Sept. 19.
Weimer, a defender, then recorded her first career points in West Virginia's 2-0 victory over Yale. She registered two assists, both off set-plays, that led to Lisa Stoia's game-winner and Marisa Kanela's second goal of the season.
A junior, the honor is the first of Weimer's career.
Weimer and the rest of the Mountaineers are in action tonight at 7 p.m., when they play host to Binghamton at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex.
