MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University baseball player Grant Psomas has recently been named to Baseball America’s Summer All-America second team for his efforts in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.
Psomas, a native of Carnegie, Pa., collected 42 hits and 20 RBIs while being named first team All-GLSCL for the Pittsburgh Pandas. The WVU shortstop batted .375, fourth in the league in batting average, while earning a selection in July’s All-Star game.
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League had more than 45 former players taken in the 2003 Major League Baseball draft, including eight first rounders in the past three seasons.
Last spring, Psomas started in 54 of the 55 games for the Mountaineers while batting .289. WVU won 35 regular season games, including 18 in BIG EAST play, one year ago.
The Mountaineer baseball team began its fall practice season last weekend. WVU will continue fall workouts for four weeks leading up their annual Blue-Gold World Series, Oct. 12-14 at Hawley Field.
