PROVIDENCE - Pittsburgh quarterback Rod Rutherford has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced. Boston College's Will Blackmon earned defensive honors, while West Virginia's Scott Gyorko garnered Special Teams Player of the Week.

Rutherford (Pittsburgh, Pa.) amassed 332 total yards in Pittsburgh's 42-21 victory over Ball State. The senior quarterback completed 19-of-31 passes (61.2 percent) for 285 yards. He had three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed eight times for 47 yards (5.9 avg.). After being tied at halftime, he helped the Panthers pull away in the third quarter, hitting 10-of-11 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Rutherford has seven touchdowns with no interceptions this season and leads the nation in passing efficiency with a 191.5 rating.
Blackmon (Cranston, R.I.) turned in a strong defensive effort in Boston College's 24-14 win at Connecticut. The sophomore cornerback finished with 14 tackles (nine solo), recording several solid hits on Husky offensive performers. Blackmon also had two interceptions for 20 yards along with one pass breakup. He leads the Eagles with four pass breakups this season to go along with 20 tackles.
Gyorko (Morgantown, W. Va.) had five tackles (four solo) on special teams as West Virginia dropped a 15-13 decision to Cincinnati. The junior linebacker plays on the punt, punt block and kickoff teams for the Mountaineers. He also tipped a punt in the second quarter and forced and recovered a fumble on a Bearcat punt return.
