MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The No. 8 West Virginia University women's soccer team plays host to St. John's on Sunday, September 14, at 1 p.m. The match is the first of a double-header with the Mountaineer men's squad at the Mountaineer Soccer Complex as part of Super Soccer Sunday.
West Virginia enters the contest fresh off a 3-1 victory over Miami on Friday night. The Mountaineers used goals from two of their seniors to secure the victory. All-American forward Chrissie Abbott scored WVU's first and last goals of the match, while fellow All-American Lisa Stoia added the game's second goal and the would-be game-winner. Stoia also assisted on both of Abbott's goals.
St. John's heads to Morgantown after a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame in its home opener. The two squads played to a scoreless tie at the half, but the Fighting Irish managed to scores in the second half to earn the win.
WVU owns a 3-2-1 all-time record against the Red Storm with the last meeting between the two schools coming in last season's BIG EAST tournament quarterfinal match. West Virginia defeated St. John's 4-0 in that contest.
