9 – Cincinnati coach Rick Minter has led the Bearcats to four bowl appearances in NINE previous seasons. Minter is aiming for his fifth bowl berth in his 10th season at UC.
8 – West Virginia has not lost in EIGHT prior meetings against Cincinnati in Morgantown. However, the Bearcats did manage to tie West Virginia 7-7 in 1940.
7 – Cincinnati has won six straight Conference-USA regular season games dating back to last year, and will look to extend that streak to SEVEN with a game against Southern Miss on Oct. 4.
6 – A total of SIX West Virginia tailbacks saw action last week in the East Carolina win. Quincy Wilson led the way with 147 yards, followed by Kay-Jay Harris (78), Hikee Johnson (40), Bryan Wright (24), Erick Phillips (22), and Jason Colson (6).
5 – West Virginia running back Quincy Wilson had his FIFTH career 100-yard rushing performance last Saturday against East Carolina. The Weirton resident finished the game with 147 yards on 19 carries.
4 – Sophomore Mike Lorello’s FOUR tackles for losses against Wisconsin ranks him third on the West Virginia single-game list for that category. James Davis produced a record six TFL against East Carolina in 2000, and linebacker Darryl Talley had five tackles for losses against Penn State in 1980.
3 – Saturday’s game against Cincinnati begins a streak where West Virginia faces THREE straight teams that went to bowl games last year. Following the Bearcats, the Mountaineers must travel to Maryland and then Miami.
2 – Sophomore wide receiver Chris Henry’s TWO catches last weekend against East Carolina resulted in touchdowns. They were also the first two receptions of his collegiate career.
1 – Cincinnati is gunning for its FIRST victory against West Virginia in a series spanning 12 games since 1921.
