MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No.8 West Virginia University women's soccer team heads to Miami (3-2-0) for a BIG EAST cross-divisional match with the Hurricanes on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (3-1-0) boast a three-match win streak heading into the contest and own a 2-1-0 all-time advantage over Miami. The two schools last met in 2001 when WVU defeated the Hurricanes 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST tournament.
On the season, West Virginia is led by senior forward Chrissie Abbott who has seven points (3G, 1A) in four matches. The Mountaineers are anchored by a solid defensive unit that has posted two shutouts in 2003, back-to-back blankings of New Hampshire and James Madison in last weekend's JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational.
Miami enters Friday's match fresh off a 2-1 win at South Florida on Sunday, Sept. 7. Hurricane freshman Shannon Sanquinetti scored the game-winner in the 80th minute to give Miami the victory.
West Virginia returns to Morgantown for another cross-divisional match against conference foe St. John's on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. The match is the first of a double-header with the Mountaineer men's team as part of Super Soccer Sunday.
