MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's soccer senior Chrissie Abbott has been named to the Soccer America team of the week for her efforts in leading the Mountaineers to three victories last week.
A North Olmstead, Ohio native, Abbott tallied seven points on the week as West Virginia defeated Michigan State 1-0 and recorded 4-0 shutouts of both New Hampshire and James Madision.
A forward, Abbott netted the game-winner against Michigan State, added one goal in the New Hampshire win and had a goal and an assist against James Madison. She was also named to the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational all-tournament team for her outstanding performance.
Earlier in the week, Abbott was named BIG EAST co-offensive player of the week as well.
Abbott, a 2003 Hermann Trophy nominee, is only three goals shy of West Virginia's all-time goals scored record currently held by former All-American and current WUSA member, Katie Barnes. After this past week's performance, Abbott boasts 43 career goals.
