MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Mountaineer men's soccer team heads to Richmond, Va., to compete in the Nike/Alltell Classic this weekend beginning Friday, Aug., 29, at 8 pm, when they face off against No. 23 Virginia Commonwealth.
The Mountaineers face VCU for the first time since 1994. The Rams hold a 2-5-0 all-time record against WVU and return seven starters from a squad that finished the 2002 season with a 15-5-1 record, capturing the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
"Its is a great opportunity for us to open against a nationally ranked team who had a great 2002 season," says coach Mike Seabolt. "We are excited to kick off the season."

"Richmond is an opponent who has a great history and numerous NCAA tournament berths," says Seabolt. "We are looking forward to the challenge that they will bring."
Clemson will also be competing in the weekend's tournament.
West Virginia will depend on its freshmen to make an instant impact on the field as the Mountaineers return only six members from last year's team. However, WVU returns leading goal scorer Aaron Pitchkolan and defensive leader Kevan Ford.
