Football: WVU Earns Top 25 Votes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University received 31 votes in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Preseason Coaches Top 25 football poll released Thursday.
West Virginia’s 31 votes placed it ahead of Hawaii for 34th place.
Oklahoma, which posted a 12-2 record last, was the preseason No. 1 team with 29 first-place votes and 1,514 total poll points. Last year’s national champion Ohio State picked up 28 first-place votes and 1,495 poll points to rank second.
The rest of the top five is made up of Miami, Texas and Kansas State.
Besides Miami, other Big East teams rated in the top 25 include No. 10 Virginia Tech and No. 11 Pittsburgh. Boston College and Syracuse also received top 25 votes.
West Virginia, 9-4 last year, opens fall football camp on Monday, Aug. 4.
