MELBOURNE, Fla. – Former West Virginia University pitcher David Maust was voted to represent the East Division in the Florida State League All-Star Game to be played Saturday, June 14 at Fort Myers’ William Hammond Stadium, the league announced Monday.
Maust is one of five Brevard County Manatees picked for the game.
The former West Virginia University standout is currently 1-2 with an 0.83 earned run average and is tied for the league-lead in appearances with 27. Maust has thrown 43.1 innings and has walked only six batters. His ERA has stayed below 1.00 for the entire year with the exception of two games, with his highest ERA topping out at just 1.06.
In 14 games with Brevard last year, Maust posted a 1-1 record with a 5.32 ERA in 22 innings pitched after being called up from low A.
Maust was taken in the 17th round of the 2001 Major League Draft by the Montreal Expos.
During his two seasons at WVU, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound, lefthander posted a 5-11 career record including a 4-8 mark as a senior in 2001. Maust struck out 79 in 72.2 innings pitched as a senior and ranked second on the Mountaineer staff in innings pitched that year.
A former transfer from Fairmont State where he was a two-time all-WVIAC pick, Maust attended Morgantown High School where he played for Dave Chaplin.
