SACRAMENTO, Calif. – West Virginia University sophomore Megan Metcale placed ninth in the women’s 1,500-meter run Saturday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State University.
Metcalfe covered 1,500 meters in a time of 4:12, placing ahead of Kansas State’s Amy Mortimer, Georgetown’s Treniere Clement and Northern Arizona’s Johanna Milsson.
The top eight runners earn All-America honors.
Tiffany McWilliams of Mississippi State won the race with a time of 4:06.75.
The decision to enter Metcalfe, a physical therapy major, in the 1,500-meter run was necessitated by a difficult academic workload. Her natural event is the 5,000 where she finished third at last year’s NCAA outdoor event.
Metcalfe placed fourth in the 3,000 at NCAA indoors this past spring and placed ninth at the NCAA cross country championships last fall.
Metcalfe is a two-time Big East champion as well.
