MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's rowing team will participate in the Dad Vail Regatta on May 9-10 in Phildelphia, Pa. On Sunday, May 11, the Mountaineers will conclude their season with the Metro Cup of the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships in Camden, N.J.
The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States.
"After a tough Big East championship and a weekend off we are ready to race again," said coach Nancy LaRocque. "All four boats are looking strong and we think we can come away with some pretty outstanding results at this regatta."
The Metro Cup consists of 10 schools that include Army, Buffalo, Colgate, Delaware, Fordham, St. Joseph's, UMass, URI, Villanova and West Virginia. In order to participate in the Metro Cup, each school must enter a varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four. Points are awarded for each event and the winner is determined by who finishes with the most points overall.
"It is going to take a total team effort to win this event against some tough competition, but we are up for the challenge," said LaRocque. "This has been our strongest year yet for each boat as well as the overall team since the inception of the program three years ago. Our coaching staff is very pleased with the way the building of this program has progressed. The program has made huge strides towards being a national contender in a very short time."
