ANKARA, Turkey - West Virginia University swimmer Can Eter placed first in the 200 meter breaststroke at the Turkish National Championships held from March 27-30 in the capital city of Ankara, Turkey.
The junior, a native of Ankara, was just .10 seconds off the national record in the 200 breast and was the national runner-up in the 100 breast.
Eter was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that placed first and broke the Turkish national record in the process.
With his performances, Eter has qualified for the Turkish National Team and will take part in international competition throughout the summer to make a push for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
"Can has dropped a significant amount of time off his swims and we couldn't be more happy for him," said coach Eric McIlquham. "He went from being virtually nobody to an important member of the Turkish National Team which is a great accomplishment."
