MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team defeated Robert Morris in a non-conference match this afternoon at the Mountaineer Tennis Complex. The Mountaineers swept the Colonials, 7-0.
West Virginia started off the match by capturing the doubles point. The pairs of Anna Marie Underwood and Jenny Watkins and Courtney Howell and Catherine Koontz each picked up victories. Robert Morris had to forfeit the No.3 match due to lack of players.
Underwood, Waktins, Koontz and Theis each picked up singles victories. Day and Howell picked up wins by default.
“The team did what they had to do to win today,” said coach Dan Silverstein. “I am really proud of the girls because they started off the season 1-6 and have won their last eight out of 11 matches. I hope that we can keep the streak going through the last matches of the year.”
The Mountaineers improve to 9-9 on the year while the Colonials fall to 1-8.
West Virginia returns to action on April 9, when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., for a match against Duquesne. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
