Women's Tennis: WVU Falls to Rutgers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team suffered a tough BIG EAST loss to Rutgers in a shortened match at the Mountaineer Tennis Complex on Friday, April 4. The Mountaineers were defeated by the Scarlet Knights, 4-1.
Junior Jennifer Watkins captured the Mountaineers lone single point of the day at No.3 singles. Junior Courtney Howell, freshmen Melissa Day and senior Anna Marie Underwood all lost in three sets. The match between WVU’s Raynie Theis and RU’s Ketevan Shmakova was in the third set, but suspended due to weather.
The Scarlet Knights improve to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while the Mountaineers fall to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST.
West Virginia returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when they play host to Seton Hall at the Mountaineer Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
