Women's Basketball: Award Winners Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey announced the 2002-03 award winners at the annual awards banquet held Sunday at the Puskar Center.
Junior Kate Bulger garnered the team's leading scorer award after she averaged 15.8 points per game and was named an all-BIG EAST third team performer. She became the 21st Mountaineer to record 1,000 career points and now totals 1,265 in three seasons, 12th all-time at WVU. The Pittsburgh native was also third nationally in three point field goal percentage (47.0), which lead the BIG EAST conference and was a WVU record.
Sophomore Yolanda Paige earned the most assists award after dishing out 199 last year, the second-most in school history. The Virginia Beach, Va., native was sixth nationally with a 7.1 assist-per-game average and twice set the WVU Coliseum record with 14 assists in the Mountaineers' wins in against Coppin State and Miami. When Paige reached double digit assists this past season, the Mountaineers were 7-1. She was also one of 12 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the nation's top point guard.
