Defensive tackle Jason Davis signed a free agent deal with the Houston Texans and wide receiver Phil Braxton inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Davis was a four-year lettermen at defensive tackle where he recorded 92 career tackles, four sacks and 13 tackles for losses. As a senior, the 6-foot-5, 295-pound, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native accounted for 28 total tackles and a sack.
Braxton came to West Virginia as a running back before being converted to wide receiver. As a junior, Braxton caught 26 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in 2001. Last year, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound, Vanderbilt, Pa., resident caught 20 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns including a 79-yard score against Pitt. Braxton posted two career 100-yard receiving games.
The signing of those two brings the total of Mountaineer players signed by professional teams to four. Previously, running back Avon Cobourne signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions and defensive tackle David Upchurch signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Offensive tackle Lance Nimmo was drafted in the fourth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and linebacker James Davis was picked in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions.
