Rowing: WVU Finishes 7th At BIG EAST

WORCESTER, MASS.- The West Virginia University women's rowing team finished seventh overall at the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge this afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. For the third consecutive year, Syracuse won the title.
The Mountaineers' varsity eight finished fourth with a time of 6:37.71. Syracuse (6:26.45) came in first, followed by Notre Dame (6:32.54) and Rutgers (6:34.93). Members of the varsity eight include Donna Stullken, Gaetanne De LaBourdonnaye, Kirsten Leslie, Erin Nisbet, Kate Abernethy, Amelia Payne, Risha Kelley, Tina Griffith, and is coxed by Laura Goren.
West Virginia finished second in the Grand Final of the second novice eight race. The Mountaineers clocked in at 7:20.41 behind Georgetown (7:08.12). The second novice eight boat includes by Jessica Wurster, Jessica Bell, Kellie McNamara, Jenny Boyles, Laura Buch, Theresa Danko, Jessica Smith, Amy Arthur, and coxed by Olivia Grantham.
Both the second varsity eight and the novice eight finished eighth overall in their respective races.
"I am very pleased with our overall results," said coach Nancy LaRocque. "This is the best we have ever done at the BIG EAST and I am looking forward to our next race."
The Mountaineers return to action on May 9 when they travel to Phildelphia, Pa., to participate in the Dad Vails.
