MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Sophomore Drew Schifino was honored as most valuable player of the West Virginia University men's basketball team at the annual basketball awards banquet of the Morgantown Touchdown Club Sunday at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Schifino, a 6-3 forward from Pittsburgh, led the Mountaineers in scoring (20.1 ppg) while earning third team all-BIG EAST recognition. He became only the second WVU player to average more than 20 points per game while playing in the three-point era. Guard Greg Jones averaged 22.3 points during the 1983 season.
Other award winners for men's basketball were: Most Improved – Duriel Price; Team Man – Josh Yeager; Best Defense – Jarmon Durisseau-Collins; Unsung Hero – Chaz Briggs; and Charges Taken – Tyrone Sally.
Others cited at the banquet included Mike Puskar, named the Proficiency Award winner, retired West Virginia journalist Tony Constantine, who captured the Jack Fleming Memorial Award, WVU women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown, who won the President's Award and athletic trainer Randy Meador, named the Touchdown Club Curbstone Coach recipient.
