Gymnastics: WVU Wraps Up Season

ATHENS, GA. – West Virginia University's gymnastics team wrapped up the 2003 season at the Southeast regional hosted by Georgia, Saturday, April 12, at the Stegeman Coliseum. The Mountaineers qualified four individuals for the competition.
Seniors Amanda Halovanic and TeShawne Jackson qualified for the all-around competition and scored a 38.275 and a 37.375, respectively. Halovanic, a Grove City, Pa., native scored a 9.8 on floor exercise, a 9.75 on vault, a 9.725 on uneven bars and a 9.0 on balance beam after falling.
Jackson, a Summerville, S.C., native was still feeling the effects of an injured right ankle suffered at the EAGL Championships two weeks ago in New Hampshire, which caused her to fall on vault with a 9.125. She also scored a 9.525 on balance beam, a 9.225 on floor exercise and a 9.5 on uneven bars.
Senior Dinorh Boyd, a Mt. Holly, N.J., native, who qualified for balance beam and floor exercise, scored a 9.525 and a 9.775, respectively.
Sophomore Kari Williams, a Newark, Del., native, scored a 9.775 on vault, the lone event she qualified in.
Host Georgia won the team competition and advanced to the national championship with a 197.125. Florida qualified as the second team to make the national championship trip with a 194.95, edging North Carolina, who scored a 194.9.
The national championship will be held in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, April 26, at the Bob Devany Sports Center.
