MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women's soccer player Chrissie Abbott has received an invitation to try out for the U-21 national team from head coach Chris Petrucelli.
The NSCAA/adidas first-team All-American is one of 21 players invited to the camp that will take place in Chula Vista, the Olympic Soccer training facility in San Diego, Calif.
A North Olmstead, Ohio, native, Abbott scored a record-setting 20 goals in 2002 while tallying seven assists for a total of 47 points. In addition to her All-American honors, the forward also earned the BIG EAST offensive player of the year award.
Should Abbott make the U-21 national team, she will become just the second Mountaineer in women's soccer history to be a member.
"Abbott is a pure goal scorer," said West Virginia head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. "I would be surprised if she didn't make the team and help them win a championship."
