Women's Tennis: WVU Wins Third Straight

CULLOWEE, N.C. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team picked up their fourth win of the season over Western Carolina this afternoon at Reid Gym Courts. The Mountaineers defeated the Catamounts 6-1.
West Virginia clinched the doubles point with wins from Melissa Day and Raynie Theis and Anna Marie Underwood and Jennifer Watkins. The victory by Underwood and Watkins marks their ninth win of the season together.
In singles action, the Mountaineers won five of their six matches. Day, Courtney Howell, Underwood, Watkins and Theis all picked up wins.
"I am very pleased that we were able to extend our streak to three," said coach Dan Silverstein. "We are playing really good tennis and the girls are looking forward to traveling to Hawaii."
With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 4-6 on the year and the Catamounts fall to 4-6.
The Mountaineers will spend their spring break in Hawaii where they will play three matches against BYU-Hawaii, Hawaii and Wyoming. The first match is set for Saturday, March 15 in Laie, HI.
