DURHAM, N.H. - Four West Virginia University gymnasts were honored today by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League, led by EAGL scholar athlete of the year Amanda Halovanic.
A Grove City, Pa., native, the marketing and finance major has a 3.79 grade-point average and has been a four-year standout for the Mountaineers.
Honored as a member of the Verizon Academic All-America at-large third-team as a junior, she ranks among the top vaulters and floor performers in the EAGL.
Halovanic, who becomes the first gymnast in WVU history to win the scholar athlete of the year award, was a four-time all-EAGL academic team member and a seven-time member of the WVU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
The EAGL honored fellow senior TeShawne Jackson, a Summerville, S.C., native, as one of four unanimous selections as first-team all-EAGL in vault, marking the fourth straight year she has earned that honor. She is the first gymnast in WVU history to earn first-team vault honors in four straight seasons.
Jackson was also named first-team all-EAGL in the floor exercise for the third consecutive season and second-team all-EAGL as an all-around performer.
Senior Dinorh Boyd, a Mt. Holly, N.J., native, garnered first-team all-EAGL balance beam honors and earned second-team honors in the floor exercise.
Freshman Alyssa DeSantis, a native of Steubenville, Ohio, was named a second-team performer on uneven bars.
The Mountaineers enter the eighth annual EAGL championships needing a high score to qualify for NCAA regional action.
West Virginia will face the rest of the EAGL on Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m., at the Whittemore Center.
