Gymnastics: WVU Finishes Second

Morgantown, W.Va. – West Virginia University's gymnastics team posted a 195.075 team score en route to a second place finish in the Mountaineers' final home meet of the season on senior day at the WVU Coliseum.
WVU (12-6) fell to No. 8 Florida (19-3) who scored a 197.125 to capture the meet crown. Despite the loss to the Gators, the Mountaineers defeated East Atlantic Gymnastics League foe New Hampshire (193.925), and non-conference opponents Yale (191.5) and Cornell (189.725). New Hampshire falls to 14-7 on the year while Yale is now 8-7 and Cornell stands at 8-17.
Senior TeShawne Jackson, a Summerville, S.C., native, recorded a perfect 10.0 on floor exercise in her final home meet. It marked just the 22nd time in WVU history that a gymnast recorded the feat and the ninth perfect 10.0 floor score in school annals. The mark was also Jackson's WVU career-leading seventh perfect score (she now has three on floor and four on vault).
In the meet, junior Jessica Bartgis, a Frederick, Md., native, finished third in the all-around with a 39.175, her second consecutive week posting above a 39.0 all-around score. She also won uneven bars with a 9.875.
Senior Dinorh Boyd, a Mt. Holly, N.J., native, won the balance beam with a 9.925 which tied a career-best.
On the day, Bartgis and Jackson tied career highs on floor exercise while sophomore Kari Williams, a Newark, Del., native, recorded a career-best on vault (9.925).
Florida led from start to finish in posting its second-highest team mark in school history.
West Virginia is back in action at Denver, Saturday, March 22, at 6:00 p.m. EST, when they take on the No. 13 Pioneers and Arizona State, at Hamilton Arena.
