FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The West Virginia University track team's distance medley relay placed fourth at the NCAA indoor track and field championships, being held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
The squad composed of Jennifer Kemp, Ailene Smith, Pam Richardson and Megan Metcalfe ran a school record time of 11:11.98. This was the highest finish recorded by a West Virginia DMR at an NCAA meet.
Their fourth place finish grants them All-American status.
North Carolina, the current American record holder, won the event in 11:00.20.
"I am just ecstatic and so proud of our girls, staff and program," says coach Jeff Huntoon.
"Jen, Ailene and Pam all ran personal bests today and allowed Megan to save her legs a little bit for tomorrow."
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow at the NCAA meet with competition set to begin at 2 p.m. Metcalfe will compete in the 3,000m, set to begin at 7:25 p.m.
