MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Intermatwrestle.com has ranked West Virginia University's wrestling team fifth in the nation based on dual meet strength, the highest ranking ever achieved by the Mountaineers.
West Virginia (7-3, 5-0) won both of its dual meets in convincing fashion last weekend, downing Pitt 29-8 and Ohio 23-9.
In addition to the team's ranking, eight individuals are ranked: Greg Jones (1st at 174), Tom McMath (8th at 165), Billy Smith (10th at 149), Brandon Lauer (12th at 133), Brent Miller (12th at heavyweight), Shane Cunanan (13th at 141), Ryan Wilman (16th at 184) and Seth Lisa (17th at 125).
The Mountaineers will look to defend its Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) dual title with home contests against two of the conference's best teams, No.23 Edinboro and No.25 Cleveland State. WVU will welcome the Fighting Scots on Friday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m., and will play host to the Vikings on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m.
