MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University will remain closed Tuesday, Feb. 18, to allow crews to continue cleaning campus roadways and sidewalks in preparation for the campus to reopen Wednesday, Feb. 19, barring any unforseen circumstances, officials announced this afternoon.
That means classes will remain canceled throughout the day and evening Tuesday along with all campus tours and other activities with the exception of one.
A Festival of Ideas lecture featuring Peterson Zah, former president of the Navajo nation, that was set for Monday has been rescheduled for Tuesday (Feb. 18) at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church on Spruce Street. Organizers say Mr. Zah arrived prior to the storm and is still anxious to deliver his message.
Similar to Monday, the Student Recreation Center and Downtown Library will continue to operate on limited hours. Rec Center hours: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Downtown Library hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The Mountainlair student union will also operate from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and Dining Services will continue to prepare and serve meals at Towers and Boreman Residence Halls. Food will also continue to be delivered to students residing at Sterling Ridge Apartment Complex.
Several dozen University employees are continuing to remove snow from campus roadways, steps and sidewalks; provide meals for students; and staff the Library, Rec Center and Mountainlair.
WVU's basketball game with Notre Dame is also still on for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Coliseum, according to athletic officials. The Mountaineer Ticket Office will be open all day tomorrow to accept orders for the game.
The University is expected to reopen Wednesday; stay tuned to local broadcast stations and WVU web sites for the latest information.
