MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University wrestler Greg Jones has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) wrestler of the week for his efforts at the NWCA All-Star Classic and in two EWL duals.
Jones, a sophomore from Slickville, Pa., defeated second-ranked Chris Pendleton of Oklahoma State 7-3 at the All-Star Classic last Monday, Feb. 3. Jones did not allow any offensive points and scored three takedowns to claim the victory.
In dual action against Lock Haven and Virginia Tech, Jones recorded a major decision against both the Bald Eagles and Hokies over the weekend. He defeated LHU's James LaValle 15-5 and Tech's Steve Borja 19-7.
Jones, the top-ranked wrestler at 174, is now 21-0 on the year and currently on a 39-match winning streak that dates back to last season.
The ninth-ranked Mountaineers will be in action twice this weekend with an EWL contest at Pitt on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m., and a non-conference matchup with Ohio at the WVU Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
