Track: Day 1 From National Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The West Virginia University track team concluded day one of the National Open in University Park, Pa., hosted by Penn State, on Friday.
The women's squad was led by the distance medley relay composed of Jennifer Kemp, Pam Richardson, Ailene Smith and Jennifer Davis. They ran a time of 11:47.68, putting them in fourth place.
Senior All-American Christine Brown placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.73 meters. Sophomore Jennifer Hall tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 3.50 meters.
The men's team was led by junior William White. He placed third in a close 60 meter das with a time of 6.86. Freshman Marc Kellman placed third in the long jump. His jump of 7.25 meters is a new personal record.
Dwayne Higgins took the No. 8 spot in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.17. The distance medley relay composed of Erik Bennett, Damian Baines, Peter Knuchel and Zach Sabatino came in ninth with a time of 10:05.31.
"We saw some great performances today and we hope to continue that through tomorrow's competition," says coach Jeff Huntoon.
The National Open continues tomorrow with competition starting at 10 a.m.
