MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University senior women's soccer players Chrissie Abbott and Lisa Stoia have been named first team all-Mid-Atlantic region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Abbott, a forward, led the Mountaineers in 2003 with 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points on the year. A Hermann Trophy semifinalist and a 2003 SoccerBuzz player of the year finalist, the North Olmsted, Ohio, native earns first team NSCAA all-region accolades for the second time in her career. She was a first team selection last season en route to becoming a first team All-America honoree in 2002. As a sophomore, Abbott was a second team all-region selection.
A Shirley, N.Y., native, Stoia earns first-team accolades for the second consecutive year as well. The 2002 and 2003 BIG EAST midfielder of the year, Stoia was second on the team in overall scoring with seven goals and a school-record 12 assists this past season. She has made the NSCAA all-region team in each of her four years at West Virginia, earning second team honors in 2001 and third team recognition as a freshman in 2000. Stoia was a second-team All-American in 2002.
Both Stoia and Abbott are now on the All-America ballot.
