Wrestling: Two Still Alive on Saturday

LAS VEGAS – West Virginia University’s Matt Lebe and Matt Daddino both advanced to the second day of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational at the Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
Lebe (157) was the lone WVU wrestler to advance into the quarterfinal round on Friday night. The sophomore won three matches in the morning session, including a 19-1 technical fall to open the pigtail round. Lebe survived a scare from Augustana’s Austin Scarset in taking an 8-7 decision in round one.
The Jeannette, Pa., native then beat North Dakota State’s Paul Carlson, 5-1. His one loss on the early season came in the evening session to Jesse Jantzen of Harvard, the nations No. 1 ranked wrestler at 149. Lebe trailed early and could not recover, taking a 7-1 defeat.
Daddino (197) won three matches for WVU on Friday. He scored injury defaults over Pete Gladish of Brown and John Plato of North Idaho. The only loss of the day came against Ohio State’s J.D. Bergman. The junior’s third win came in the evening session with a 5-3 decision over Chase VerDoom of Michigan.
Today’s action starts at 9 a.m. (PST) and concludes with the placing rounds beginning at 5 p.m. (PST).
