MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University gymnastics coach Linda Burdette has announced the signing of two recruits for the 2005 season. Committing to WVU were Jaime Gold and Kara Weaver.
Gold, a Gahanna, Ohio, native, is a four year level 10 competitor. She is the 2002 region 5 vault champion as well as the 2001 and 2003 Ohio state vault champ. Gold, who trains at Gahana Cyclone Gym, finished 13th on vault and 14th on floor at 2003 junior nationals. An honor roll student at Lincoln High, Gold plans to major in exercise physiology at WVU.
"Jaime will make an immediate impact on our team," comments head coach Linda Burdette. "She has no weak event. She's competed at nationals so she had a lot of experience. She has a great personality and will easily handle the challenges of being a collegiate gymnast."
Weaver, a native of Cottageville, W.Va., brings six years of level 10 experience to West Virginia. While training at the Glendate Gymnastics Club in Parkersburg, W.Va., Weaver became the first West Virginian to ever win the level 10 regional championship when she did so in 2000. That year, after advancing to the national competition, she finished 20th in the all-around. In 2002 and 2003, Weaver was an all-around competitor at the level 10 regional competition as well. A 4.0 student, Weaver is also planning to major in exercise physiology at West Virginia.
"Kara is the top gymnast is the state of West Virginia," says Burdette. "We're excited to have a West Virginian on our team because it continues the tradition we have had of having gymnasts from this state competing for WVU. She has no weak event and looks to make an impact as soon as she gets on campus.
"Overall, these two young ladies were our top two recruits. We're very fortunate to get them and we expect both to have immediate success at West Virginia University."
