MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Preparation work on the new stadium suites at Mountaineer Field is underway. Today, March-Westin workers have begun tearing down the north end zone bleachers.
Once that process is complete, the north end zone scoreboard will also be disassembled and excavation work will begin in preparation for construction of 19 additional stadium suites.
When the process is completed before the 2004 home opener, approximately 100 ADA seats will be available on the concourse level, 640 club seats will be located below that and 400 seats at field level will be provided for the Mountaineer marching band.
The 18 suites will have the capacity of seating more than 30 per box. Earl Miller, WVU Manager of Capital Construction Projects, says Mountaineer Field will lose some seating during the conversion though he isn’t sure just how many that will end up being.

“Mountaineer Field will still have a capacity well above 60,000,” he says.
Work crews began assembling materials at the stadium right after the Temple game and Millers says the project is on schedule.
“They were supposed to start on December 1 and they started on December 1,” he said.
The north end scoreboard will be preserved along with its matrix board and reconfigured for the façade above the suites. When the two-story structure is finished it will completely enclose the stadium.
“No one will be able to see the field from outside when it’s done,” said Miller.
Miller anticipates two other major construction projects to begin soon. West Virginia University is still evaluating bids for the Coliseum renovation project and work will start on that as soon as bids are awarded.
The Mountaineer Soccer Complex is also part of West Virginia’s extensive capital improvements and that project is also schedule to start in the next few weeks when bids are awarded.
