Women's Basketball: WVU Heads to Duquesne

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University's women's basketball team takes on Duquesne (3-4) Saturday, Dec. 20, at 6:35, at the A.J. Palumbo Center, in Pittsburgh, Pa., in the 35th meeting between the two schools.
West Virginia (6-3), which owns a 27-7 all-time lead over its former Atlantic 10 rival, is looking to snap a two-game losing streak after losses at Delaware State and Northwestern earlier in the week.
WVU has won three straight in the series while both schools have won five each in the last 10 meetings.
Duquesne is led senior forward Candace Futtrell and her 20.3 points-per-game average. She is also second on the team in rebounds with 7.1 a contest.
WVU is led by senior guards Kate Bulger and Sherell Sowho who are averaging 16.7 and 16.0 points per game, respectively. Bulger is second in the BIG EAST with a 3.2 three-point field goals made-per-game average while Sowho leads the squad and is third in conference with a 2.7 steals-per-game average.
With 12 points against Duquesne, Bulger will pass former Mountaineer Maria Tchobanova for ninth on the all-time WVU scoring list. With 15 points she'll move past former player and coach Alexis Basil for eighth on the list.
Junior point guard Yolanda Paige leads the BIG EAST with a 6.8 assists-per-game average and is fresh off back-to-back double digit assist games at Delaware State and Northwestern. It is just the second time in her career she has posted back-to-back double figure assists.
Under the direction of Mike Carey, WVU is 25-6 (.806) against non-conference foes. WVU has won 19 of the last 22 non-conference games under Carey's tenure.
