MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Chalk up another award for West Virginia’s Grant Wiley. Yesterday the senior was named to the TSN College Football All-American team and today, the Trappe, Pa., native was named to the Sports Illustrated 2003 All-American team.
Wiley, West Virginia’s top tackler with 158 stops, also produced 14.5 tackles for losses and forced an NCAA-best seven fumbles this year. Wiley also picked off two passes.
Previously, Wiley was named to the Football Writers and Southern Football Weekly All-American teams.
Wiley was a Nagurski Award finalist as the nation’s top defensive player and was a first team all-Big East pick.
The senior is looking to become West Virginia’s first consensus All-American since defensive end Canute Curtis in 1996. West Virginia’s last two consensus All-Americans were defensive players; cornerback Aaron Beasley was a consensus pick in 1995.
In addition to Wiley, Sports Illustrated listed senior running back Quincy Wilson and senior safety Brian King on its honorable mention team. Wilson finished this year rushing for 1,331 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games. King picked off a team-best six passes and was also in on 108 tackles.
