Swimming: Franca Paces WVU Men

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Kleyton Franca captured both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle to lead the WVU men’s swimming team to a strong showing Friday evening at Peppe Aquatics Center at Ohio State University.
The Mountaineer men (4-2) defeated Louisville, 181-59, but lost to Ohio State, 107-130. The WVU women's team (3-4) dropped Louisville, 136-96, but lost a 65.5-169.5 decision to Ohio State.
Franca produced a 1.40.83 clocking in the 200 freestyle and 4:38.48 time in the 500 freestyle against swimmers from Ohio State and Louisville.
Sophomore Chris Hagedorn was also impressive in the 50-yard freestyle, capturing the event with a time of 21.21.
Junior Pedro Pinto won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:54.74, barely edging Ohio State’s Jeff Gullett by six-tenths of a second.
Can Eter edged out WVU teammate edged out WVU teammate Robert Mitchell for top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke, though Ohio State’s Rob Kauscher, finished first with a time of 2:10.07. He was swimming the race as an exhibition.
WVU’s 400-yard freestyle relay also beat Louisiville head-to-head with a time of 3:06.18. Once again, Ohio State won the race with a time of 3:04.18 but was competing as an exhibition.
For the WVU women, freshman Chelsea Ademski had a positive showing by placing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.64. Sophomore Ashley Bissett also placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:29.84.
Junior Manuela Trabert placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.61.
West Virginia returns to the pool on Dec. 4-6 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
