MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University wrestling team is set to host the 22nd annual WVU Open Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., in the Shell Building.
"We start the season with our tournament here which is nice to allow everybody to wrestle," head coach Craig Turnbull said. "Whether it’s a fifth-team guy or first-team guy, everybody gets the chance to wrestle. It functions in a real good way to get things started.”
The all-day event features individuals and teams from over 20 institutions and wrestling clubs. The tournament is a classic open tournament where there are no team scores and anyone is able to participate. Nine West Virginia wrestlers placed in the top four at the WVU Open a year ago.
The Mountaineers enter the season tabbed the nation’s 15th-best team in the preseason poll released by Amateur Wrestling News. WVU returns 11 letterwinners from last year’s EWL regular season championship. Turnbull enters his 26th season at the helm of WVU’s wrestling program.
