ST. THOMAS, V.I. – Michelle Carter and Sherell Sowho scored 19 points each to lead West Virginia to an 89-63 victory over James Madison Saturday in the final game of the Paradise Jam Tournament in St. Thomas, V.I.
After losing to Southwest Missouri State on Thursday, West Virginia rebounded to defeat Georgia Tech and James Madison to finish the tournament with a 2-1 record.
West Virginia, now 4-1, got 17 points from Kate Bulger and 15 from Yolana Paige in registering its highest scoring output of the season.
WVU shot a blistering 56.1 percent from the floor and held a large, 37-16 rebounding edge on the Dukes.
Four of West Virginia’s five starters shot better than 50 percent from the field led by Sowho’s eight of 13. The Mountaineers also canned nine of 19 three-point field goal attempts for 47.4 percent.
James Madison, which drops to 1-3, hit 25 of 52 field goal attempts for 46.7 percent including seven of 15 from three-point distance.
Lesley Dickinson led the Dukes with 23 points. Jody LeRose came off the bench to contribute 15.
West Virginia returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 4 at Wright State. That game will get underway at 7 pm and MSN’s radio coverage will begin at 6:50 pm.
