WATERLOO, Iowa – West Virginia University cross country runners Megan Metcalfe and Tara Struyk closed out the 2003 season on Monday, Nov. 24, by finishing 32nd and 70th respectively at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo, IA.
Monday’s race marked the first time all season long in which Metcalfe was not the top WVU finisher. Struyk, who has been at the heels of Metcalfe throughout the 2003 campaign, was the top WVU finisher for the first time in her career. Struyk, who finished two spots outside of achieving All-American status, crossed the line in 20:41.00 while Metcalfe finished with a time of 21:04.40.
Monday’s race marked the close of the 2003 cross country season. The Mountaineers return all seven runners to next year’s squad.
